SINGLE REVIEW – GRL – Lighthouse
GRL have been through a tough couple of months after the tragic loss of fellow member Simone Battle. After having some time off to grieve and mentally prepare for what they have planned as a group in 2015 they are finally back with their first single. “Lighthouse” is a touchingly beautiful pop ballad paying tribute to their former member and friend. The song is also dedicated to those battling depression or other mental illnesses and urges them to reach out to loved ones. “When it gets real just know that I’ll be there. I got your back, like it’s just you and me here. I’ll go to war for you, let them bring it. I’ll take on the world for you, better believe it. So if you need me, just holler my name”. Showcasing their raw and strong vocals Lauren Bennett, Paula Van Oppen, Emmalyn Estrada and Natasha Slayton impress with beautiful harmonies. The chorus is uplifting and makes you think about the true meaning of the lyrics. “When the night gets cold and the lights go out, the sun is gone behind the clouds. When you feel lost, then I’ll reach out to guide you home with my lighthouse”. The song is a strong comeback for the girls and shows their strength as a group. This is an emotional track with a simple arrangement that will uplift and inspire you.
