SINGLE REVIEW: Jessica Mauboy – Can I Get A Moment?
Jessica Mauboy is on the verge of breaking the U.S market and with the Babyface penned “Can I Get A Moment?” this dream may just become a reality for the Australian songstress. The brassy pop song see’s Mauboy channeling her soul and RNB roots while tackling an infectiously repetitive hook. The only downside is the “Blurred Lines” styled backing vocals which seem gimmicky and unoriginal. Her vocals never seem to disappoint and this song allows her to showcase her vocal range to the best of her ability. With enough vocal runs to challenge Christina Aguilera or Mariah Carey this song has a diva attitude and shows a side of Mauboy that needs to be explored further. The carefree and sassy attitude is refreshing and if the American market get behind this track it could be the start of something massive for her. It’s a step in the right direction to separate herself from the generic pop songs that are currently floating through the airwaves with the focus drawn to her natural ability, her vocals. This is a fairly in your face song but it works well and will have you humming along to the hook even after it’s stopped playing.
