SINGLE REVIEW: Gwen Stefani – Baby Don’t Lie
I don’t even know how to start this review. I could start with some bullshit about how big her comeback is but let be honest you already know that so let me get to the point. “Baby Don’t Lie” is a reggae influenced pop song that is very similar to the sound you would expect from No Doubt. This is a massive gamble for Gwen Stefani because it isn’t as pop or RNB driven as her previous releases but it still brings a catchy hook that will have you singing along after one listen. There is a slight RNB breakdown in the third verse which I would have loved to have heard expanded as it’s a bit too brief and feels like a last minute addition. Her vocals are instantly recognizable and will have people turning their radios up when hearing it for the first time going “is this Gwen Stefani?”. Co-written by Ryan Tedder, Benny Blanco, Noel Zancanella and Gwen Stefani you would think it would be a pretty complex song but it’s actually a really repetitive song. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing because it’s ridiculously catchy but with four big cowriters on one track I would expect more. Gwen Stefani’s comeback is one I have been looking forward to for a very long time and I couldn’t be happier that she’s back. “Baby Don’t Lie” is a catchy lead single that will get people talking and sees her experimenting with her No Doubt roots. With producers like Diplo and Pharrell Williams working on her third studio album slated for early 2015 prepare to bowing at her knees.
