LIVE REVIEW: Sara Bareilles – The Tivoli
Four years ago Sara Bareilles toured Australia supporting Maroon 5 on their national tour, she has now returned to an unprecedented run of sold out shows. Supported by Melbourne based musician Ben Abraham these intimate sold out shows were quite special if you got to witness them. Bareilles walked out onto the stage alone with a guitar in hand and bared her heart and soul with “Let The Rain”. Taking to the piano for fan favourite “Uncharted” she then welcomed her band to stage to play “Love On The Rocks”. What followed next was one of the biggest sing-alongs of the evening to her first hit single “Love Song”. Her ability to interact with the crowd with such ease and connect on a deeper level is commendable. And not many people know this but she’s actually hilarious and very witty. She called out patrons who came in late to their seats saying “It’s okay you’ve missed my biggest hit anyway”. The majority of the setlist came from her new album “The Blessed Unrest” with “Manhattan”, Hercules”, “Chasing The Sun” and “I Choose You” being major highlights. Her cover of Sia’s “Chandelier” took her vocals to a whole new level having the whole audience stunned with goosebumps. She welcomed support act Ben Abraham back on stage to perform a couple of songs together and showcased a duet they’ve done for his debut album called “This Is On Me”. She closed the show with three of her hits “King Of Anything”, “Gravity” and one of the biggest songs of the summer “Brave”. For a minimalistic and intimate show with a lot of songs about heartbreak Bareilles managed to deliver an entertaining and unforgettable live experience. Her witty banter, charismatic stage presence, strong setlist selections and incredible vocal range are only a couple of reasons why you should see her next time which will hopefully be in less than four years time.
