Has Shakira And Rihanna Lost Their Impact?

‘Can’t Remember To Forget You’ is the new single from Shakira featuring one of pop music’s biggest stars, Rihanna. When this duet was announced I was convinced that this would already be one of 2014 biggest songs and when the song dropped I was waiting for it to go number one. But it didn’t, and still hasn’t. The song is failing to even hit top 10 status on most official charts and ITunes downloads charts. But the real question is why? Has Shakira and Rihanna lost their impact on the music industry? The song debuted at number 28 on the Billboard Top 100 which became the highest a Shakira song has debuted in the U.S but it hasn’t really made any other significant impact. In Australia the song is sitting at around number 18 while Rihanna new single ‘Jump’ is comfortably sitting in the top 10. Radio hasn’t really jumped behind this song as expected either, it’s getting decent play but definitely not as much as Pharrell Williams, Avici or Lorde. The music video is probably the biggest success about this song receiving more than 17.1 million views in the first 24 hours. I’m not going to lie though it was most likely because it was a racy film clip with the two songstresses playfully touching each other half naked.

I honestly don’t know why this song hasn’t been a bigger success and why people haven’t got behind this song more than it was expected. I personally love this song and think it’s a very strong comeback release for the Latin singer as well as a smart career move for Rihanna who shows a very sexy side to her vocals. It was a strong song with a catchy hook and a very cool reggae vibe, it just sadly didn’t seem to connect with everyone. Hopefully with the figures for the music video it will bump the song up in the charts over the next couple of weeks and resurrect this song from fading away.
