SINGLE REVIEW: Fancy – Iggy Azalea featuring Charli XCX
Over the past year Iggy Azalea has been making a big name for herself in the industry, dropping song after song and climbing the charts with her infectious hip-hop/electronic tracks. After a long wait for her fans her debut album ‘The New Classic’ will be released on April 14 and to promote the release of the album Iggy has just premiered her fourth single. ‘Fancy’ (Feat Charli XCX) is Iggy’s most traditional hip hop release to date with a simple trapp beat that allows the rapper to spit some killer verses. “First thing first I’m the realest. Drop this and let the whole world feel it. And I’m still in the murda bizness, I can hold you down, like I’m givin’ lessons in physics.”
Charli XCX provides vocals for the songs hook with the line “I’m so fancy, you already know. I’m in the fast lane, from LA to Tokyo” bound to get stuck in your head. At a first listen the song grabbed my attention but it wasn’t until I finished the second listen that I fell in love with this track. This reminds me of Iggy’s early mixtape material which really put her on the map as her raps are so infectious and catchy and always got people talking. This song doesn’t rely on a big dance beat unlike ‘Bounce’ or ‘Work’ and allows Iggy’s raps and words take over the song. I personally hope the world falls in love with this song and helps her make another mark on the charts.
A demo of Fancy which was titled ‘Leave it’ originally leaked at the end of 2013 and some fans have been debating on social media sites like Twitter that ‘Fancy’ doesn’t live up to the expectations the demo Leave It made. But honestly ‘Leave it’ was very rough and clearly needed work and the way Iggy has reconstructed that song to ‘Fancy’ is impressive.
‘Fancy’ will be released on ITunes on April 6 followed by the release of her debut album ‘The New Classic’ on April 14.
