Single Review: Justin Timberlake – Take Back The Night

JT

Justin Timberlake had massive success with his second studio album ‘Futuresex Lovesounds’ which spun the hit singles ‘Sexyback’, ‘My Love’, ‘What Goes Around’ and ‘LoveStoned’. The expectations were always going to be high for JT when he released his third studio album but when it was released it just never delivered the magic that ‘Futuresex Lovesounds’ made.

So where has the magic gone? ‘The 20/20 Experience’ had only two hits which were ‘Suit And Tie’ and ‘Mirrors’ and neither had the real impact that previous songs from JT have had on the industry. The rest of the album was too bland, too long and not commercial enough to really relate to modern music. Justin has announced that he will be releasing ‘The 20/20 Experience: 2 of 2’ on September 30 2013. The hype has already begun around this album and will it live up to expectations, time is yet to tell.

He has dropped the lead single from this new album titled ‘Take Back The Night’ which is substantially better. This song has a Disco/RNB feel and has been compared to the work and sound of Michael Jackson. Timberlake’s vocals sound incredible and show off a wide range with a lot pitch and melody changes. One thing I do love about this song is the use of horns and the jazz influences throughout the track.

‘Take Back The Night’ is definitely catchy however I probably wouldn’t say it’s his best work and you can’t help but be a bit disappointed. It’s a bit too long but lyrically it’s really good and is almost a serenade for a would be lover. It does slowly grow on you and the more and more you listen to it the hook gets buried in your head and you find yourself swaying to the beat. Expect to see Justin Timberlake in Australia at the first half of next year for his massive ‘20/20 Experience World Tour’ which will definitely be a show you don’t want to miss out on.

‘Take Back The Night’ is now available on ITunes and you can pre-order ‘The 20/20 Experience: Part 2 of 2’ from Sanity now.
